Hey I am trying to help my friend swap out a dead headlight bulb in his boxster and am quite surprised to find out how counter-intuitive it appears to be. Can someone please provide a little insight or a resource?

No one knows how to change their headlight bulb?

Sorry no one answered - hope your friend figured it out - it really helps to have the manual.
Open the front hood, detach the carpet next to the headlight by unscreing plastic nut. Remove rubber plug, and place socket wrench from tool kit on the unlocking spindle - tongue of the wrench should point horizontally to the rear.(The wrench is some kind of right-angled key).Turn wrench 180 degrees until pointing forwards. Headlamp assembly can now be pulled out from the front. Turn the wrench back until it points vertically down. To reinstall, push back headlamp into the guide rails and turn wrench back pointing horizontally to the rear while pushing on the headlamp (you should hear it latch)

Took me a while to get back to this topic but your advice was spot on. Actually I only just finally got sick of my roommate harrassing me about helping him with the damn light.
