Question Idle search 700-1000rpm (up/down)

I have an '01 Box S.

1. The idle has never been great, but now it bobs between 700-1000rpm. The problem is pronounced with the AC off, but is still present with AC on. Very irritating.
2. My acceleration is not smooth, like the air mass sensor keeps changing the mixture or flow or something, sorry I'm no mechanic.
3. With clutch disengaged, I get a rattle from the gear box, I've been told it's the throw out bearing? Also, the transmission or axles or something in the driveline just feels sloppy. If I let off the accel. and then reapply, I get the herky jerky feeling, especially at low rpm.

any help on anything would be GREATLY appreciated since the dealer here in Naples knows about as much as I do....not much.

I have same problem 1 but not always, very rare

I have noticed a lag smtms in accelaration, but i always check the car's performance with the gtech-pro and the figures are the same, maybe it's my mood..

I have the same problem 3 of the release bearing sound

Well I cant do anything about them also!

hi with regards your engine surging, please check oil filler cap, fuel filler cap and seals.it could also be the throttle body, you need the dealer to look into this part of it.

if you think there is slackness in drive line sounds like twin mass flywheel has collapsed, get trained porsche tech to drive if possible

Since your car is an '01, unless you've got lots of miles it should still be under warranty. Take it to your dealer and have them diagnose it.

If you are out of warranty, check your O2 sensor. Your idle may be swinging right along with the lambda.

thanks for the reply. That's the problem, it is still under warranty, but the "check engine" light isn't on so the dealer thinks it's fine. Troubleshooting isn't their specialty I guess.

I had some of the issues you talk about, rattling, sloppyness, etc (not the idle issues though). The rattling turned out to be a loose heat shield around the manifold. The looseness in what felt like the tranny mounts turned out to be something to do with the suspension. Don't know exactly but the dealer tightened everything in and around the suspension and the problem was solved. Steering feels stiffer (like new) too .

Don't know if it's the same, but I thought it might be informative.
