Post oil leaks

I just bought a 97 Boxter last month and it already leaks oil. The dealer says it is leaking from around the oil pump and the rear main engine seal. Are leaks like this common in the Boxter? The fear factor is setting in and I'm concerned that owning a Boxter is like owning an old Harley.

No its just like owning a Porsche. RMS leaks are very common. My 2002 2.7 had a RMS leak which was fixed quickly under warranty. I expect this wont be my first leak.

RMS leaks are reported with some frequency in 97-98 models. Be sure it is an RMS leak though. Other leaks are less common, but much easier fixes.

If it is a true RMS look into having it fixed under warranty. Yes I know the car has been off warranty for some time. However, others have reported that since RMS is a known mfg defect Porsche fixes -- no charge.

GOOD LUCK!

Good news! After removing the transmission and checking the engine more closely it was determined that the RMS was out of spec (not concentric) and that I will be getting a new engine compliments of Porsche.
