Post Check out the "Adrenalizer"

There's an ad in Panorama for the "Adrenalizer" - a glass 986 engine cover that allows one to actually see the engine. A sliding door allows one to HEAR the engine, too, should one choose to do so. It looks like a cool enhancement.

Pricing is kinda steep though - about $1300 (after $300 trade in credit for OEM engine cover)

Has anyone seen one of these things?

The general idea of making the Boxster engine more visible (ala the 360 Modena) is a good one.

This item is apparently intended as primarily an audio enhancement. That is, the sliding door allows engine noise into the cabin. If you have ever driven your Boxster without the engine cover, you will know that it is LOUD - much more raucous than just changing an exhaust or air filter.

And note that some people have been actually REMOVING parts of their engine ("desnorking") to increase the noise factor.

Others have recommended the EVO intake for noise. But installing the EVO intake can involve cutting out the factory airbox....and will often cause problems with MAF sensors. (ie. repeated trips to the dealer)

As far as downsides with this product (Adrenalizer), some people are concerned about the potential for heat transfer from the engine to the plastic rear window. If engine heat gets into the cabin, it could easily ruin or at least shorten the life of the rear window. And then there are the company's silly cosmetic options (colored LED lights ).

I think they have a good basic idea here, but the price is out of whack. And they need to offer some guarantee that the thing is safe for the rear window. Otherwise, at least this thing does not mess with the safety/reliability of your engine.

you dont need to cut out the Air box to install an Evo intake.. I took mine out in one piece. You just need to know what your doing.

Did you encounter any MAF problems with the EVO intake? I've heard that a lot of people have had problems with the sensors being spoiled.

I've also heard that "desnorking" increases the risk of an engine fire - since the engine is more likely to inhale a cigarette butt!

I am not an advocate of this product (never even seen one in the flesh) but do not understand the bashing of it either. As far as the painted engine goes, my 944 (like many 944s) has a painted block. And many people paint their brake calipers, no? It's like everything else - there is a tasteful way to do it, and a tacky way.

For a sound enhancement, this seems a lot less drastic than desnorking or EVO intake, and far less likely to cause engine problems. Too bad about the price.

The EVO intake is not all that complicated as people make out to be..for the money it the best bang for the buck in sound and HP..its sounds that good..most people who are hesitant or against the EVO,either havent tried it or are skeptical of the intake because of other who have most likely over oiled the filter, which is very easy to do.Every time i clean the filter i just sit it next to a high powered fan,let it blow thru for ahwile to make sure the excess oil wicks thru,no problem with MAF at all...some people have problems with the BMC and K&N because of this same problem, its not the intake, but the excess oil...another reason for check engine light is improperly installed, just because u see the MAF light come on ,doesnt mean its the MAF.The EVO intake makes my Boxster experience so much more fun...this sliding door would be much more drastic then an intake system, plus the sound of the intake can be heard inside the car and outside..step on the gas and everyone around is like holy *@#!

Thanks for the info. I will check out the EVO intake.

I have a BMC air filter in my Boxster S and have been pleased with the audio results. The engine has much more of a grrrrrrrrowl. I don't know if there is any power gain, but the sound alone is worth it.

If I owned a Boxter, I would want to see the engine. I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't want to see it. It is, after all, the heart and soul of a Porsche.

I just got back from a ride in an 'Adrenalizer' equipped Boxster S. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. The sound is really cool from a standard Boxster, but with the 'Adrenalizer' installed the roar is clearly evident.

I was speaking with the owner/designer of this product and he stated to me that the price is $999.00 after your core is returned to them.($300 core charge)

At that price it is a steal, IMO. Looks great, sounds great, incredible workmanship.

I have no ties to this company or product.

Hey John, with the top up how can you see the engine thru the window from any position other than leaning over the car and looking down thru the rear window? My point is these guys market this product with photos showing the view of the engine with the soft top released and opened as if you were going to remove the access cover to the motor. <img src="http://www.adrenalineautomotive.com/images/adrensample.jpg" alt=" - " />
No one does this except on a rare occassion. Imagine how much of that motor you will be able to see with the soft top in the up position. Just does not make sense to me. If sound is all you are after do exhaust or intake and save a bundle. just my opinion.
