I guess the best way to explain is, if you have no knowledge base and no understanding of the subject, if you have no confidence in your own analysis and decision-making process, have money to burn and are routinely bullied by service advisors and checkout girls at the department store, Porsche-branded coolant is ideal and it goes nicely with your Porsche cufflinks.

On the other hand, if you are a car guy, have some basic understanding of science, believe in spending money properly, can read a label and are unconcerned about your coolant matching your cufflinks and brake fluid, maybe putting the exact same product in your car, w/o the pretty Porsche label, isn't a bad idea.

Later models should use the Pentosin ++, same as VW G-12++

They are all "compatible" anyway...

Whatever comes in the Porsche jug is what I use or whatever comes out of the barrel in the dealer service fluids storage area. I see no reason to fix what is not broken. When I walk into a Porsche parts counter and the manager hands me a bottle of whatever your touting then I'll use that.

Now if you want to speed up this process I'll consider switching to whatever you recommend when you put your money behind your recommendation and accept responsibility for any issues that arise from me or anyone following your advice to stray from recommended fluids.

Until then you're just 'net noise.

Sincerely,

Macster.

If I felt I needed to have an in depth knowledge of cooling system fluids, oils, and such because I couldn't trust Porsche for this I would never had bought a Porsche to begin with.

Thankfully, whatever meager knowledge I possess it is sufficient to keep me from blindly following the latest self-appointed expert's advice regarding what fluids I should use in my Porsches.

BTW, I can resist the lure of the check out girls rather well but I get all flustered in some interactions with the opposite sex. One such interaction occurred when I visited a Vegas hotel/casino Mexican restaurant and was greeted at the entrance by a very beautiful hostess in the tightest black dress ever. As she walked me to my table and I was trying to remember my name to respond to her asking for my name I agreed to let her order a drink for me, a margarita.

In a few moments appeared the largest margarita ever. I of course finished it and I guess I made it through dinner and back to my hotel room ok for I awoke in my room the next morning, but I do not recall what I had for the dinner nor do I remember the walk/elevator ride from the restaurant to my hotel room. Thankfully my wallet and money were present and so were my car keys. Whew!

Sincerely,

Macster.

Why then, are you arguing in a "technical forum"? That's not a technical argument, just personal speculation. You don't have a science background, do you?

My mechanic scoffed at using G-12, not because he didn't believe me, but he "hates G-12". The best I could explain on the phone was the Pentosin table linking all the products. He knew what I meant, but was surprised, a 30 year Master Porsche Mechanic. Later, I'll explain the failure mode for this type of coolant to him. He'll understand because it correlates with his experience. I went w/the Porsche coolant to simplify the task for him. He claimed only a +$5 premium over G-12.

So, no I don't expect everyone to know this info, but I do. I intend to offer the best understanding of the subject that I can, just like I ask in return from the members here. I only have a certain skill set, and this is part of it. All the belly aching and deference to the mfg, well..that's like saying they've never made a mistake, or technology doesn't evolve. Certainly lube tech has come a long way in 10 years, and an incredible distance in 20 years. So, by your logic, you'd use ancient API SG or SH oil in an older car, not the modern replacement? Funny, my manual only calls for API SH or SJ, including strait weights.

Bringing an owner's manual to a technical discussion is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

I plan on using ATF+4 in my PS system, any problems with that? lol. Mercedes uses ATF+4 and duty tested it for PSF apps. ATF is the most common PSF in the industry. Mercedes turned away from using the super-thin Pentosin CHF 11S. Everyone I know (a LOT of owners) switched to ATF like Mobil 1 and never looked back. It actually cured their leaks, as ATF has a slight seal swelling effect. CHF 11S is more of an aircraft hydrolic fluid, when low temp operation is a priority, not hot conditions. DYK what VW and Audi used before CHF? They used Dexron III, and when the switchover was made...all the old hard parts remained exactly the same.

Something happened getting these images up before. It's almost comical to think there is some magically different formulas for these applications, when they are all clearly covered by the ONE product. Hint, the "++" part kind of gives it away, along with the combined specs.

It's ok, if you can't keep up with the rest of the class, just lay your head down on your desk for a while.
