Post How to avoid dead battery from winter storage?

I have a 2000 Boxster. Every winter when the car is stored, I encounter problems with the battery going dead. I go to start/drive the car periodically, but the battery is dead in a relatively short time. Is there any way to disconnect the battery (ie. quick release disconnect). I used to have an older triumph that I had a quick disconnect on, and it would preserve the battery while in storage, but with all the new electronics on these cars, is there a problem with not having the battery connected for an extended period of time? How does everyone else handle the winter storage? Thanks!

Factory battery maintainer. Plug one end into the into cigarette lighter, the other end into the wall socket.

Never had a problem.
