Boxster owners... why won't you wave?
#61
I am a proud owner of my first Porsche. I picked up 2003 Boxster S, Lapis Blue-Grey interior. Today I was approaching a 911, I waved and he waved back. Made me feel good. Little did I know, that tonight seeing this discussion board for the first time, that I would see this subject. Pretty cool!
Anyway, can some tell me what the normal order of things are flash-wave? Or the other way around. Thanks

I'm also a Boxster S owner and am damn proud of it.
Whenever I pass another Porsche I flash my lights, if they don't respond too bad.
If they think "It's only a Boxster" well then I would suggest to try me, don't think there will be much of them that are actually faster

I just read this whole thread, and you guys have made me feel bad. I'm on my third 944, have driven them for five years, and have NEVER gotten a wave or a flash back from any porsche other than another 944/951.(They usually wave) I always felt rejected, so about a year ago I just quit trying. I like the Boxster. I was looking at one at the dealer Saturday. I may very well have one someday, I'm just not done with this 951 yet.
I will gladly return a flash or a wave from another (especially non-944) porsche. That is - provided I can retain my composure and not drive into a tree.
I have an idea. There is a custom in the Army that a new Lieutenant carries a silver dollar in his pocket after receiving his commission. When the new officer is saluted the first time by an enlisted man, he presents the soldier with the dollar. Tomorrow I will put a dollar in my car. As soon as I get flashed or see a wave from a non-944, I will give that dollar to the next homeless person I see. So there you have it. Wave at a 944, and help the homeless.
I will let you know if I ever get rid of that dollar.

I've actually had quite a few Boxsters flash and wave. Most Porsches I've seen have had drivers friendly enough to wave. From 914's to 996's. All except one guy in Kent, WA in a Silver C4 who actually scowled at me. Like he was mad at me since I didn't have a $1000.00 lease payment on my Porsche.

Here's some sad reality for you: I recently took a black on black Boxster out for a test-drive and happened to spot a buddy coming towards me in his 87 911 Turbo. Well, I waved and flashed frantically at him and HE IGNORES ME! Unbelievable! This guy always waves to me in my own two Porsches... I can see why you Boxster owners give up after awhile...

FWIW, it's much the same in Denmark.
One post mentions that he always gets a wave from 928 owners - I wouldn't know, mostly because I rarely see any, and when I do they're usually going so fast I wouldn't know a wave from an attempt to hang on for dear life
When it comes to inter-model-hate (is that a term, or did I just coin it?) - it really puzzles me. I didn't used to like the Boxster (seemed a 911 wannabe), but I never hated it, and I always flash when I see one (no reply, usually). After actually driving one, I can't help but love it. It IS truly an awesome car - if only it wasn't a $110K investment in DK (2nd hand, of course) I'd probably own one too.
No, for now I'll stick to my S4, and keep on flashing when I see a P-badge, regardless of the owners ignorance.
