Boxster owners... why won't you wave?
#16
When I have my 944 and my 944S2 I used to get waves from other 944 Owners, sometimes I would get a wave from a 911 but most of the time not.
I think the people the own Boxsters are not all
that much wrapped up in driving a Porsche, I think they drive them becuase they are trendy.

I'll admit when I'm hauling *** down the road and scanning/processing for cops and other traffic, there have been a couple of times I've passed by another Porsche too quickly to raise my hand. By the time the car that I thought was an RX-7 or whatever comes out from behind the SUV it was hiding behind, it's too late.
I try to wave to all P-cars but so many owners are not true enthusiasts.

Scott,
You are so right about not judging a book by its cover. I pulled up next to a woman in a 993 and asked her what year it was. I thought she was a typical woman who was clueless other than liking the looks of the car..
She said, "It is a 75". I said, "A 75??", she said, "Oh I am sorry I just sold my 75 and bought this, it is a 95. I had the 75 since new..."
Turned out she was a Porsche driving instructor...ouch! I learned my lesson...

I haven't gotten a wave from any boxster owner. I am a first time porsche owner, i'm an 20 years old, and I know about the flashing. I don't think that's an excuse. I flash everyone, even non porsche sports cars. I received waves from 911 (and turbos) owners, 944 owners, 993 owners. I HAVE NEVER recieved acknowledgement from a boxster owner. I hope I do in the future, I mean, they are still porsche owners.

Coming home from work Friday I got a wave and a honk from a guy in a Miata. It was one of the first "convertible days" here in the Cinci area...still a little cool to where only the convertible "purists" have their tops down. Not a Pcar, but an enthusiast none the less. I waved back happily...

The WAVE? Isn't that what you do at a baseball game?
LOL, I own an 01 Boxster and use to own a 00 BMW. People only wanted to race me with disrespect in my BMW, because all car companies say "Better the 3". So pardon me if it takes a while for me to wave back.
PS BMW drive don't wave at anyone, ever, think the own the road because the most likely never drove a better car.

You must have a minimum Porsche badge count on your car to qualify as a real Porsche.
I have 12, how many have you got ?
Sorry Mike I just thought it would be and obvious jibe coming from a 944 guy. No hard feelings ??

I was talking to a guy recently who owns a 1973 Carrera RS replica. We discussed different Porsches.
I asked him about the 993 Turbo, and he told me that he "doesn't look at anything later than 1989.... Anything after 1989 is not really a Porsche." He was serious. So now even the 993 is not a Porsche!

quote:
i never knew when i entered the Porsche family there would be so much separtism amongst Porsche enthusiasts

It can be very annoying, but only if you let it. The appropriate response is to ridicule these opinions for their silliness. The true enthusiasts are not concerned with spouting such drivel.

When I drive my 356, EVERYBODY waves, gives me thumbs up, and shouts "cool car".
It's such entertainment to read peoples posts about what a real PORSCHE is or is not. Iv'e owned P cars for 36 years and can remember when the 356 was the only real PORSCHE!! The first 911 was actually "dissed" by 356 people as not being a real porsche!! Every automobile Porsche has produced over the past 55 years has been a real PORSCHE! To hear about some guy with a REPLICA RS talking about what real years of PORSCHES are is hilarious.
Waving at other Porsches started after the SECOND Porsche was produced! Over the years waving has faded into rarity because people are buying Porsches as status symbols, not because of the enthusiasm for a true sports car, or the loyalty to the history of a car manufactured by a real automotive genius, Ferdinand Porsche. There are many Porsche owners today that have no clue to any past history of the marque. When you wave to these people, don't expect them to wave back. Just wave at the PORSCHE!!!

I drive a 993, and ALL P-cars get a wave/headlight-dip. Well ok, the Spyder that I sometimes see also gets a tootle on the horn.
Yes K27 the joke was obvious. I guess you wanna-be P-car drivers need a good sense of humor...
Seriously, it's ALL GOOD!
Cheers,
Chris

Sean is my boyfriend and it has been my experience that when we are riding in the Boxster we get a friendlier reaction from non-Porsche drivers. While stopped at redlights, we are constantly getting waves, honks or questions about the car from those around us.
In fact, I think the non-Porsche folks pay attention moreso than the Porsche owners we encounter!

Actually, and don't tell anyone on the 944 board, but I was sitting in a brand new speed yellow 986 at the dealer on Saturday and I found I had the urge to write the cheque there and then.
This is one nice car to sit in, I need to drive one, but if it drives as good as it looks I would love have one.
now if they only had a turbo version............
