Forgive the question from a 993 owner but a good friend of mine has a MY 2001 Boxster S. He wants to know if the 2003 roof with the glass rear window can be retro fitted to earlier cars.

I think the general consensus is that YES, you can retrofit the 2003 roof & glass rear window on earlier cars.

However, the consensus also holds that NO, it is not cost effective. While it is technically possible, I believe it costs around $6000.

You can buy a lot of plastic rear windows for six grand!

Sean is correct, it requires a complete replacement of top frame and top fabric, to the tune of nearly $7000. It is possible, but not practical.
