Post Guards Red Vs Arctic Silver

In general i just want some opinions on who likes what and why because:

originally i wanted a silver car, and theres a silver boxster S with about 70% of the options i want coming in 2 weeks

in about a month, theres a absolutely perfect guards red boxster S with All the options i want...

if i want a perfect silver car i may have to wait or go through another long process of searching... or wait 2-3 months for the order process...

silver was what i wanted first, and seems to be the de facto color these days for alotta of cars which is also slightly a reason i dont want it (tooooo widespread)

people tell me that red is really flashy, but whats a p-car if people's eyes don't get pulled to it?

if i get the red car, will i be able to have porsche or a porsche dealer paint it to exact factory color? what about a specialized porsche tuner?

what do you guys think about each color?
flashiness, dirt, etc...

It would cost you a Bazillion dollars to repaint the car. I just had my 91 CII Cab repainted the factory color, and it cost me over $3000, and it wasn't even close to equaling a factory job. The best guy in town wanted $7,500, and that was not a color change. To change the color, the whole car would have to be disassembled. Seats, dash, windows, windshield, top, carpet, wiring, engine, etc, etc.

While I also like silver, expecially on a Boxster, why not order what you want. I had a friend order a new Boxster, and he had to wait about 4 months to get it, but he got exactly what he wanted.

I'll have to agree with Bill. Get the car you want in the color you want. If you don't you will not enjoy the car as much (not that you will not enjoy the car at all, just not as much). Hold out for the silver if that's what you want. Otherwise, everytime you look at the car you say to yourself "Man, I wish I had waited for the silver one with X option. Oh, well it's still a fun car, I'm going to go have fun." Well, at least that's what I would do...

Just my $0.02,

Get what you want. I, for one, LOVE Guards Red and wouldn't have it any other way!

Flip a coin.

Heads = Guards Red
Tails = Arctic Silver

Disregard the results of the flip. Instead, choose the color that you instinctively WISHED would be chosen while the coin was still spinning in mid-air. That's the color you really want.

Talking

Once upon a time, when the Rennlist Web Boards were in a totally different format, the Red vs. Silver question was posted. A gentleman by the name of spider had this to say about it:

[quote] Here is a simple test that you can take to determine whether you should get a red Porsche or a silver Porsche:

1. Check to see what underwear you have on. If you are wearing big baggy plaid boxer shorts... consider silver. If you aren't wearing any underwear...consider red.

2. You go to the Porsche dealer and your first thought is "I should spend 6 months discussing this lease/purchase with my accountant" ...consider silver.
Your first thought is "Gimme that little red
SOB!"...consider red.

3. You blow dry your hair after appyling hair
spray...consider silver. You don't own a comb (and have hair)...consider red.

4. You wear armani alligator skin shoes while
driving...consider silver. You drive
barefoot...consider red.

5. You check the color silver with your wife, who has final approval of the purchase... consider silver. You know that your mistress is going to flip when she sees the car...consider red.

6. You have your radio set to public stations and the Texaco Opera...consider silver. You don't give a rip about the radio, as you just want to hear the engine...consider red.

7. You do business work on your laptop during
flights...consider silver. You are a member of the "mile high club"...consider red.

8. Your idea of a good time is a scotch on the rocks at the country club...consider silver. You idea of a good time is rock climbing in Scotland...consider red.

9. You buy the car and 2 weeks later the PCNA woman calls to survey your buying experience. You spend an hour going into great detail to provide meaningful and useful responses to her...consider silver. You tell the
PCNA woman to just fill out the survey herself, and you then ask her what she is wearing... consider red.

Hope that makes it easier for you.

Have fun!

Melissa enjoyed the read thanks for posting that.

I have the car in Silver. To me that is the color that shows the lines of the car the best. Only problem with the color is the over abundance of them.

So what I would say to someone is pick the color that is your initial instinct, that is the one you will be happiest with, even if you have to wait for the right car with the options you want.

Nothing against Guards Red it is a fine color and looks good on the cars also. I just don't think it shows of the shape of the car as well as Silver does. My 2 cents.

They are both wrong. Speed Yellow, the only color with "Speed" in the name.

As an alternative, you could go with Seal Grey, the darker silver color which I think shows the lines better than the lighter silver and still isn't very hard to keep clean, that would be my second choice.

Color does matter.
Hmmm what type of undies do SY owners wear?

Have a 2002 Guards Red. This was not my first choice, but after 6 months I won't want any other color. I also think it is easy to keep clean and does not show dirt like some of the other colors.
