Default Different tire makes front/back okay?

I have Dunlop 8000's on my Boxster. The rear will need replacing this year I think, but the fronts are more than fine. Can I put Yokohama's EVS 100's on the back and keep the Dunlops in front? They would both be high performance W-rated tires. I had the Yokohama's on another car and they are great and would save some money ($120+) over comperables and they don't make the 8000's anymore anyway I believe. I just do a little spirited driving is all on the weekends.

Thanks.

I would never recomend mixing tires by make or even model or n rating or running any tires that are not n rated

Porsche gives an "N" rating to certain tires that they've tested and approved, the lower the number the numbers after the "N" are associated with which generation of that tire they're on

so an N0 Michelin Pilot Sport Rib isn't exactly the same as an N1 Michelin Pilot Sport Rib, and still not the same as a plain Michelin Pilot Sport Rib even if the sizes, speeds, and load ratings look identical

I'm in the situation where my rears are good N3 PZeros, but my fronts need replacement and the N3's are discontinued... so I either go with plain PZeros or I buy all 4, it's tough to throw away $550 worth of rear tire so the choice isn't so easy

Any idea what the number after the N signifies? Which would be a higher rating, N1 or N2?

N2 is the higher rating, even though its not really a "rating." Think of it more as a revision or version. Therefore a N2 tire would be a later revision or version of an N1 tire.

Thanks. Even the guy at TireRack didn't know the answer to that one.

I'm running non-N-rated tires on my Boxster, and it hasn't blown up. I also haven't skidded on the road, experienced dangerous loss of traction, or strange handling.

I do live in constant fear that someone from Porsche will track me down, slash my tires, and leave a threatening note using cutout newspaper letters under my wipers.

Maybe now is the time to admit that the crests on my wheels' centercaps don't always point towards the valve stem?
