Question How do I get to the engine in a 2001 Boxster? (not joking)

OK, my friends dad has a 2001 Boxster I drove. His dad is always working and my friends interest in the car hasn't gotten to the engine. Mine has.

How can I see the engine? The little bugger seems to be hiding below the top storage area, so how do I get to it?

Get out the manual and read the appropriate section. It is quite clear. Manual should be under the steering column in a mount.

There a number of steps that are need to get "under the hood", as it were and you are best served to do it right.

It is easy. Someone who has done it before will show you. When you do the 30k service you also remove the inspection panel behind the rear seats. Jeff

You are best advised to read the manual.

From memory, it's something like this...
1. Barely open convertible top so that it is 2-3" from front windshield.
2. Reach down and snap ball joint cables loose on each side of car. (see, told you that you should read the manual )
3. Fold convertible top forward.
4. If you have rear speakers, detach cord on passenger side.
5. Remove sound deadening material.
6. Remove enginne cover.

All of that sounds like a LOT, but with experience you can do it in a couple of minutes! It is really very easy.

OK, imagine an engine fire on some problem. You might as well get on the phone to your insurance company and tell them the car is gone!
