Unhappy Boxster-S Battery problem or alternator problem?

Please I need some advice. I have a Boxster-S that I drive mostly for fun. It sat undriven for about three weeks, due to snow, ice and sleet. When I went to drive it, the battery had died. I took the battery out to have it recharged, but two placess I took it to told me the battery was bad. But, the battery is a fairly new (6 months old) Porsche battery (OEM). I bought a tricke charger and I was able to fully charge the battery myself and it started the car fine, a little sluggish, but it started. I drove for about 40 minutes (highway). but, when I turned the car off and try to restart , it almost wouldn't start again. Now the quetsion is, do I have a bad battery, or is my alternator going bad? please help. It is a Boxster 2001-S with about 11,500 miles on it.
Thanks for any suggestion! One addition information, the nearest deealer is 125 miles away, so I cannot easily have it checked by a porsche dealer.
thanks.

if they said the battery is bad its probaly bad,
you need to charge the battery and check it with a hydrometer

40 minutes of driving should have been enough to recharge the battery, so it's definitely bad. It sounds like you also have a problem with your charging system, most likely the alternator. That would explain why your new battery is already bad.

Have the charging system checked out.

Take it back to the dealer. It should be under warranty.

Just don't tell them that the car sat for so long.

If your car sits, get yourself a battery maintainer. Typically trickle charges need to be "supervised" so they don't boil the battery.

I have this one and I'm quite happy with it. Bought an adapter so you can plug it into the cig lighter.

There are some s's that have bad alternators, my local p-mech. has shown me some examples of them.
Replace battery, check the charging system, if alt is bad, go to delaer and yell @ them
