Default How to tell if car has remote lock system installed

I am having some confusion on weither my 98 boxster even has the has the keyless remote function. My car did not come with the remote key, as I was told it was lost, I do have the valet key and the lighted head key, but that key does not have the chip in it, so its for the doors only, wont start the car without the chip. The car has the black box under the driver seat for the system, but before I order a remote head and get it programed, how do I know for sure?

You could have options M531 or M535. The option codes are on a sticker in the service manual.

As you have to go to the dealer for the keys, get them cut and program everything, you might as well let them sort it out.

Can you put your key in a passenger side door lock?
