Default Buying a boxster - diff. between 2002,2003 and 2004?

Hi folks,

Well, my girlfriend is looking for a new car and on the cards are two roadsters.

1) Boxster
2) BMW Z4

We'll be test driving both over this weekend. Obviously I lean towards a 986 since I drive a 996 myself - but she likes both so we're going to try them out.

Now the question is that what are the major differences between the 2002, 2003 and the 2004 versions of the Boxster?

eg. I know sometime they went from amber headlights/turn lights to clear lights as well as glass rear window. When was all this? What are the other differences, big or small ??

Some tips on her preferences:
1) We're looking for the Boxster, not the Boxster S
2) She's more into the fun stuff like "music system, looks, cup holder, glove box, ease of top up/down etc"
3) She's NOT into the more serious stuff like power, torque, engine growl (women are funny creatures at times!!)
4) She CANNOT drive a manual, just automatics (She strongly wanted to learn how to drive a manual on my Carrera .... :O gulp!! That was such a tough one to avoid!)
5) Red is her favourite colour !

2003-2004 are the same and come with a glass window top, glove box, and I forget what else. If price is not a factor I would go with those years rather than a 2002.

If I were you I'd direct her away from either car with the priorities listed. My recommendation would be either an A4 vert or a BMW 325 vert. IMO these cars would be far better choices for her, given her preferences and both are nice looking, practical cars that should not cost any more than a Boxster or Z4. Moreover, as a former owne of several two seaters, there will always come a time when you wish that you had a back seat, even a tiny one like in the 911.

well, 2002's don't have a glove box, and the cup holders are **** and placed right above the stereo head unit by default (www.ultimatecupholders.com fixes this easily), they also have a plastic rear window which requires care and forethought before putting it down otherwise it can crease and crack

there's visual differences between the 2002's and 2003's and 4's, updated rear bumpers, updated intake and exhaust vents, slightly more advertised power and a somewhat better exhaust note, but they do weigh more so they won't be any faster really

the boxsters do have more storage room than any other roadster on the market, having 2 trunks is pretty damned useful (I can fit my full set of golf clubs in the back in a ping carry bag with only taking my driver out, I've even fit a weekend's full of camping gear in the car including a tent, bags, packs, and food), while the Z4 has basically no useful storage to speak of
