Default Need quick HELP on first oil change!!!

I am doing my first oil change on the 2002 Boxster S, read the Pelican instructions, drained oil, went to change filter, and the hole in the new filter element is smaller than the one currently in the car. When I dropped the old filter out, some kind of black adapter? also came out, that seems to fit into the top of the paper filter. So, since the car is sans oil, I decided to reuse the old filter temporarily. maybe i put this adapter in backwards, but now when I start the car, I get "low oil pressure" warning on the dash.

The new mahle filter number that i bought is 996 107 225 52. Pelican says the is superceded by 996 107 225 53.

So, is the adapter backwards? Can I drop the filter without draining all of the oil?

Help please!

you dropped the canister, or someone did .
it goes in the bottom of the canister and it is damn near impossible to put it back in usually the tabs break and it wont go back in.

you can take the filter down without draining the oil

Do not drive with the low oil pressure light on, dent even idle. Do what you have to even if you need to rent a car. It will be way cheaper.
