As was said off the bat: drive one. To clarify, drive the S.

Last year when I did PDE, we did the autocross part in Boxsters. Both the base and S model. Almost exclusively the class was filled with 911 guys. EVERY ONE of them got out the car after their first drive with the most insane grin on their face, wondering how they'd missed this car all these years. I suspect that PDE sold a few more Porsches that day.

So give one a spin, just remember to bring your checkbook.

There's no substitute - to coin a phrase - for an air-cooled 911. If I had to sell one of my Porsches for some reason, I'd sell the Boxster. If I had to sell two, I'd sell the Boxster and then the 944. But the 993 is special.

That being said, I enjoy the Boxster more than the 996 or 997, and even slightly more than the Cayman. If you are going to get a "modern" car - meaning a car without the traditional air-cooled virtues - you might as well get one with the engine in the right place
