How long can it run rich for before.....
I have been trying to troubleshoot and track down the source of my CEL codes,P1124 and P1126. Both indicate an air leak=car is running rich. How long could I drive it for before I blow a whole in a piston or break something? I don't drive the car hard at all.
Does the car run rich before it sets off the CEL or does the CEL come on instantly when the car runs rich?

IT HAS TO REACH A THRESHOLD BEFORE IT WILL THROW A FAULT

When you pulled the codes did the 1124 give you an "above threshold" or "below threshold" fault? That will help with the diagnostics.
