I did it last winter and it took about 1 1/2 hours. Very easy to do from the top (at least it is on the 2000, YMMV). When you replace it, make sure you replace the hose clamps with new stainless screw down ones. There's a TSB out to replace all of the spring type clamps with screw type when you remove them to help prevent future problems.

IIRC it took a 10mm socket and pipe pliers for the clamps to remove it. Just add a screwdriver to put it back on.

Good luck!

Anyone know where I can find the TSB and the clamps?

You can find the clamps at most any auto parts shop. It's just a straight swap. I prefer the stainless ones since they don't corrode.

IVE NEVER SEE NA TSB ON THE CLAMPS, AND I FIND THE SPRING ONES MUCH EASIER TO USE, THE COME WITH THE BELLOWS JUST SLIP THE BELLOWS ON AND PULL THE BLUE TAB. WITH THE WORM GEAR CLAMPS YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFULL NOT TO TWIST THEM AND UNSEAL OF TEAR THE BELLOWS

Porsche has issued 2 TSBs on clamps. But for coolant hose clamps.

The first issued on 8-14-97 says that screw-type hose clamps are not approved.

The second issued on 11-10-00 says that if leaks are found to replace the spring-band type with the screw-type.

Sometimes it is better to follow common sense rather than blindly following Porsche.

There is no TSB on the oil separator. Use whatever clamp works bets for you. The spring band clamp for the bellows tube is a pain to get to. If you want to use a screw-type when you put the new one back in then do it. The style of clamp does not matter.

#2/00, #3/00, #6/00 all note the problems with spring type clamps. Those deal with the cooling system, but spring type are not good enough for high compression engines for any hoses. The spring type clamps were also harder to take off than the screw down type were to put back on.

"The spring type clamps were also harder to take off than the screw down type were to put back on. "

if your replacing the seperator you should also replace the bellows,
un bolt the seperator and rip the billows, then you can easily undo the spring clamp
using wormgear clamps is fine, as long as you make sure it stays flat as you tighten it

if it ***** it could affect sealing and or rip the bellows.. the clamps are about 8$ and come locked open with the lil blue tab very much worth the 8$ to me

The seperator comes with the bellows. I just use the orignal type of clip..
