Default carbon fiber shift **** cosmetic issue

I have just purchased a 1999 986 with a full cf interior. The plastic cover on the insert that shows the shift pattern is cracked. A call to Porsche says the entire shift **** needs to be replaced for $450. This seems excessive to say the least. Can anybody offer suggestions for a remedy.
TIA
DG

Almost impossible to repair the small problem on carbon, so a new one may be in order....

But what dealer quoted that price? I don't believe that is even list price (should be less).

Take all that CF crap out. I will give you good address for storage. Can you post a pic of the damage?

I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. I actually don't care for the cf and it is ubelievably expensive when purchased from Porsche, but it's too much hassle to take out. I got the quote from the Porsche dealer in Sarasota Florida.
