Default LIFTER NOISE?

My friend has a boxter, I have a 964 so am not experienced with his car.

It is a 98 with 100k on the engine. He has a slight lifter noise sort of a tapping but it also makes a chirping or cricket sounding noise when cold and in the warm up phase.

The chirping noise and the lifter noise started at the same time. Jsut after a chip was installed.

Could anything else cause this? any experience out there with this?

Thanks

Bw

I get a little tapping when I have not driven the Boxster for a while. This should not be a big surprise. Lifters will tend to bleed down if a car sits a long time.Chirping? Of course I'm talking a long time too. My car is a 97 with 47k miles so it does sit alot. I have it on my list to drive it more!

Well the mechanics are confident the chirping and clicking noise is a lifter.. This car is a daily driver perfectly maintained. We shall see if it holds up another 3000 miles as we are leaving to North Carolina from Miami.

Check the Sparkplugs and make sure one or more haven't loosened.
