Smile New Boxster Owner

Hey all,

I just picked up my first Boxster last week! It's a 2001, Lapis Blue/Metropol Blue/Savannah Beige, Tiptronic, Sport Package, power heated seats, and the 17" Boxster Design wheels. The car had only 11,600 miles on it when I picked it up in Dallas last week - it now has about 14,000 after the drive back to Canada. Although it was a long drive in two days, it was a very nice way for my wife and I to bond with the new car!

I've been thinking of buying a Boxster for quite a while, and finally found the right one. I was really pleasantly surprised to find heated seats on a Texas car, but it's perfect for the cool fall evenings here in Ottawa.

I'm a bit of a car nut - in addition to the Boxster I currently have an early 1974 Datsun 260Z (this is the fun weekend/project car), a 2001 Lexus IS300 (the daily driver), and a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6 4x4 that I used to take off-roading. My list of previous vehicles include a 2000 Mazda Millenia S (yeah, with the strange-but-cool Miller-cycle motor), a 1986 944 (M474 sport pkg), a 1992 Mazda Miata, a couple of Honda Civic Si (1990, 1992), a 1979 VW Rabbit GTI (the lightweight German one), and many others.

I used to be quite active with autox and DE until I wrecked both on my knees in a skiing accident about 7 years ago - hence now the Tip in the Box and the e-shift in the IS. I'm not sure if I will get involved in motorsports again at this time, as insurance issues seem to have become much more pronounced in the last few years.

Anyway, this and other internet boards have been vital in helping me shop for my car and deciding what I want, so thanks for making this such a wonderful community. I hope that over the years I, too, can be there to help others join the Boxster world...

AG,

Welcome to Rennlist, I just picked up my S about a month ago, they are great cars, enjoy!
I was a 911 snob but now I have seen the light!
I've had many Porsches but one of the most fun cars I ever had was my 84 GTI

Thanks all! I'm quite happy and excited about my purchase! Of course, as soon as I bought a convertible the rain started, and since the car is leaking (see my other thread) it means it has to stay in the dry garage. Hopefully I'll get this sorted out soon, and be able to enjoy the car rain or shine!

Hello orange260z,

i am a fellow Canadian (not far from you, MTL). Actually, we are in the same PCA region!

How complicated was your purchase? The cars here in Canada are priced well over the American retailers. What about getting it over the border in terms of customs and such. I really wanna know.

Thanks,
Michael

Thanks all for your welcome. I'm happy to report that my leak is fixed (automotive goop!), the car is imported, safetied and e-tested, and I just have to go register and pick up my plates on Thursday! Just as luck would have it, the local PCA club will be heading to Lake Placid NY on Saturday on a coffee run, so it'll be a great way to introduce my wife to the club!
