Difference between Sport Package and M030
What is the difference between the Sport package option on the Boxster S and the M030 package? I am considering the purchase of a used Boxster S and would like to know more about the various option packages. Thanks for your help.

According to my info, I have two option codes that are labeled "Sport Package": P16 and P63. They both seem to have the identical grouping of options which are:
M396--17" Wheels/Tires
M551--Wind Stop (whoop-de-doo!)
M490--Sound system (ditto)
M454--Cruise control
M535--Alarm system
M688--CD player (in-dash)
I don't think I've *seen* a Boxster that didn't have the "Sport Package," so it's really just about standard equipment.
Again, according the info I have this package has an MSRP of $3,395.
There's also a "Sport Touring Package" (P-64) that adds useful things like a CD-changer, on-board computer, and a bunch of aluminum trim....for only $6,683.
Porsche option codes can be very difficult to pin down, especially since any portion of these "packages" can be overridden by other options. For instance on my 2002 S the "Sport Package" was overridden by the conflicting option of M413--18" wheels.
M030 is listed as "Sport Chassis" and is a common option code across all Porsche models. I don't know exactly what it consists of for a standard Boxster, probably stiffer swaybars, upgraded springs/shocks...maybe brakes? I don't know what the exact differences between the "M030" on a standard Boxster vs. the "standard" suspension on the Boxster S???? Probably not much, and if I had to guess it would be the brakes.
Had enough? ;-)

I thought the sport package on my car was the bigger bolstered seats with painted backs and the granite-like silvery colored trim on the doors, console, and speedo, with diamond textured dash and door panels?
what am I talking about?
half of the codes on my potion list aren't even codes I can find anywhere... I think they just put random strings of numbers on the sheet and charge $6,634 for option pfg5684346546. maybe? Ok, I'm exaggerating a little, but I really don't know what a lot of the #s mean, and I've tried researching it.
or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, it wouldn't be the first time.

I have the Sport Chassis option on my car, and indeed 030 is on the paper sticker on the inside of the front lid.
Sport Chassis adds tuned suspension to the Boxster: different springs, shocks and sway bars. That's also why the car sits a bit lower (1cm?) and the ride is noticeably stiffer.

How about on my S550? It has wheel spacers and is lowered by 10mm (appx. 1 cm by my calculations ). Does this car have "Sport Chassis" (M030) or is it yet another suspention option?

Unless you changed the springs to ROW your 550 SE is not 10mm lower than any other Boxster, although it does have M030 (US)
I too have a 550 SE and I installed ROW springs which lowered the front over 20mm and the rear 10.
Understand all ROW Boxsters are 10mm lower in front (nominally). and M030 equipped cars are and additional 10mm lower all around. There a pretty large tolorance of +/- in factory measurement so it is possible that some cars could be as much as 10mm diferrent from others.
BUT...the US Anniversary editions did not have Euro specs...so the additional 10mm spoken of in brochures did not apply.
