Default 996 to 986 turbo twist wheel issues

Hello all. I am new to Rennlist and have enjoyed the forums so far. I am back to the P-car fold with a 2002 986S with the 17" S wheels. ET55 front and ET50 rear.

I bought some 18" turbo twists from a 996 that are ET50 and ET65. Tires are PZero Asymmetrico (225/40/18 and 265/35/18) Porsche part numbers are: REAR 993 362 140 04 FRONT 993 362 134 06

Everything I've been told is that I need a 18mm spacer to get them out to a ET47 and clear the caliper, etc.

I called Automotion to buy the spacer and 2 different guys told me I need to get the wheels in (still shipping to me via UPS) measure them and get the actual number I need for the spacer as all cars a slightly different and may need different spacers and possibly longer lug bolts to get the 7-9 full turns on the lug nuts for proper engagement.

Just looking for some advice, someone who maybe has done it successfully, whether or not stock lug bolts will work, what spacer worked, etc.

thanks,

Jeff

I have not personally done it, but a 10" 996 rear should fit a 986 with a 17mm spacer. A friend of mine did just this with Sport Designs. I also have 10" rears (aftermarket) with a 48mm offset. In my 2000 manual, I believe it covers the 17mm spacers which use lug nuts instead of lug bolts. (The lug bolts screw the spacers to the wheel hub.) Apparently, this was a factory set up for certain options. Porsche makes a factory 17mm spacer set which I would recommend. I would not use a 17mm spacer with 17mm longer lug bolts as I think that setup is not as strong as Porsche's.
