Default Window Tint on Boxsters?

So yesterday I had my windows on my 987S tinted with 20% tint. When I went to pick up the car my first reaction was that I didn't really like it. It looked kind of odd with the black top and in a way took away from the lines of the car.

Is it just me? Has anyone else experienced this? Did it grow on you?

I'd love for the top to be down most of the time that I drive the car and when that's possible it really won't matter, but the fact is that I drive it with the top up quite a bit.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I as well have considered tinting but a few thoughts have held me back
-Will the car look funny with the top down and windows tinted?
-I heard rumors, but no idea if its true, that Porsche already has UV protection installed in the windows.
-I like to keep my car OEM to the max,and unless Porsche makes window tint or subcontracts with someone else I doubt I will have it installed.
Just my 2 cents,I would love to see pics of your Boxster with tint though.

Ironically enough, this forum has a 987 section that might be a better place to ask about aesthetics on a 987?

I have not checked yet, the UV protection you're talking about is polarized. If you take a pair of polarized sunglasses and turn the lenses while sitting in the car, there is a point where you won't be able to see through the lenses any more. That's where the polarization in the sunglasses is perpendicular to the polarization in the window. If you can turn the glasses and always see through them, there is no UV protection.

I've been planning to borrow my friend's polarized sunglasses to try it, but I keep forgetting. I'll report if I get a chance to do it, but all I own are cheap sunglasses.

Default mine

I have my 06 tinted and have no regrets. I like the way it looks with the top up (brown top though ) and it also keeps the glare from SUV's out of the passenger compartment when the top is up. I like the complete contrast when you put the top down...... from cave-like to to really bright.

I know all about the 987 fourm....however it's even more dead than the 986 forum. I figured that there were a lot more people with 986's than 987's and I'd get a better response based upon that. I figured that this particular question was one for all boxster owners and not just 987's so I posted here.

Why I think they should be combined, at least until the 987 has a few years on it.

I agree with you completely!!! It would be a better forum if they were combined.

Ironically enough, the 987 and 986 pretty much look the same with the windows tinted. Most of us read both forums since Porsche pretty much kept the character the same when they redesigned the Boxster.
