Hello, I have a 00 boxster base model. Recently my car has been making a starnge high pitch screeching noise, sort of like a unlubricated fan belt noise. This only happens when the engine is warmed up to driving temperature and not when it is cold.
At first I suspected it was from the fan belt or engine area but it is coming from the driver's side muffler. What can cause this? is there a way I can fix this problem besides replacing the whole muffler as it is quite annoying and embarrass whenit is making such a noise during idling in the traffic. Thanks.

no, i cannot see a leak and it does not sound like a leak too. Only at idle, i can hear the noise and while stepping on gas pedal lightly, it will go away.

Check in your engine compartment and see if your oil filler tube is flattening. That's a sign the oil separator is going or gone and very dangerous for the engine. It's an easy fix, but I'd keep her in the garage until you figure this out.
This happened to me recently and it took me about 1 1/2 hours to replace the separator.
