I just wanted the glass window, the redesign of the rear bumper + glove box did not really appeal to me. Of course the extra 8 ponnies are good but still not worth it, same thing for clear lights. In my opinion save the price difference by getting a 2000S, buy a set of clear lights $150 which I did. Once your rear plastic window gives up install a new glass aftermarket top costs about $ 700. Install an Evoms intake for $ 400 to get those 8 ponnies back and you are good to go.
I know the price difference between a 2000S and a 2003S is no longer $10k, but since it is out of your budget anyway. Why not get the 2000S and spend at your convenience about $ 1,200 to add the similar features of a 2003 model.
Here in California you cannot get a nice 2000S for $ 25k it is closer to $ 30k.

Good Luck
I'd like to wholeheartedly agree, for me it was a low mileage 00 Boxster S (with a hardtop and 33xxx miles) or a regular mileage 03 Boxster, and I decided the S was the way to go. A newer Porsche is nice, but realistically an 03 Porsche with 30,000 miles and an 00 Porsche with 30,000 miles sure look/feel/act pretty similar, the age isn't really a factor, it's how they are taken care of.

2000 S still close to $30K? cool! That's what I paid a year ago with only 10,000 miles. I added 13,000 miles this year even though I rely on public transportation during the weekdays. I was just making up reasons to drive the S the first six months.
I guess I picked the right year to avoid the greatest amount of depreciation. Somehow I think a well maintained Boxster with less than 40,000 miles will never sell for less than $25K? I mean think about it a reliable world class Sportscar for the price of Honda or Mazda? The 996 and 986 design is one that I think will stand the test of the time, I mean it already has more than 12 years after the concept was first unveiled.

I have a 2000S and I expect the price to bottom out around $14k in the next 5 years.
It is a complete guess on my part but I believe it will be worth a slightly used miata.
Much better car than the miata even though I still miss mine but the on going maintenance is way more expensive.
