If you have an owner's manual there are instructions to get into the engine bay. The air box is directly behind the driver's seat mounted against the side wall of the engine bay. The end pops off and the filter slides in. If you don't have a manual, post it and I'll try to write up some instructions.
Be careful with the K&N. Too much oil and you will kill your MAF. It also lets more dirt in since it has larger holes to let more air in. I bought one a long time ago but I won't put it in because of others having those problems in their Boxster and/or 928.

I'm removing my K&N filter in the next two weeks. I'll sell ya mine for cheap. To remove the factory airbox requires that you either remove the engine or remove the intake runner on that side as well as the injector rail. The second option is the way I'm going in order to put the factory airbox back in.

Of course irrespective of how well
you oil the filter and its potential for MAF fouling, the K&N has been demonstrated by independent tests to let more and bigger dirt particles into the engine. It is a trade off of engine wear versus the noise you think you want to hear...and the supposed HP you think you feel. If the stock air filter is relatively clean, it lets in enough air so the air fuel mix is optimum per factory ECM settings.
