Default I'm curious about something.

Why don't Boxster owners wave at other Porsche drivers?

You know it's like kinda expected, right?

Not meaning to flame, but a LOT of us other P-car owners are always wondering about that in various threads/discussions, so i figured i'd just go straight to the source and ask.

  • Because some Porsche owners drive 911's and they don't wave at "lesser Porsches?"
  • Because some Porsche owners think Boxsters are girlie-sissy cars and aren't going to wave to anyone who's sexual orientation they question?
  • Because it takes a special breed of individual (i.e. sexually secure) to recognize the performance capabilities of a Boxster (i.e. mid-engine balanced handling ***-kicker) and other Porsche owners don't want to acknowledge that with a friendly wave?
  • Boxster owners don't need to wave at other Boxster owners? (See Above)
I don't know ... pick one.

OK, that's about what i figured.

It's a complex. Sorry to hear about that. I like boxsters fine, and i wave to all Porsche owners. Everyone but Boxster owners routinely waves back.

If you see me, please wave back.

When I bought each of my Boxsters, I waived to about the first dozen Pcar people I saw (various models). NONE of them waved back. I gave up. Sorry...

I guess it depends upon where you live. I wave at other P-Cars and they look at me like I'm trying to solicit their daughter. Maybe everyone here is just too jaded. I stopped at a Barnes and Noble last night and parked (regular head-in parking) between a new Rolls Royce and Laborghini Gallardo. Boxsters are a dime a dozen around here.

In France it works,

In Germany you'd be a traffic hasard as you'd never have your hands on the wheel but on small roads outside of the cities it works.

When I drive the 356 Porsche drivers, japanese tourists, pensioners and kids on the street wave. When i drive the 914, Beetle drivers wave.

As long as Policemen don't wave it's OK.

I would turn the question around on you......why don't 928 drivers wave back??

I always throw a wave (yes even to Cayenne's) and I rarely (about 25% of the time) get a wave or "flash" back.

You tell me.......why aren't Porsche owners waving anymore??

You couldn't be more wrong. No complex w/Boxster owners....I think the wave is dying. I can't explain why but Porsche owners (across all models) just don't seem to wave much anymore.

I always wave, but I only get an "answer" about 25% of the time (doesn't matter if I'm in the 986 or 996). Kinda sad.

Out of curiosity.....why would you single out Boxster drivers?

When I'm in my 914-6 I get lots of waves except water pumpers and Boxster owners try to drag me (and lose) for some reason.

When I'm in my 911 I get waves from other p-cars except newer ones.

I have found that:
-Owners of older Porsche's generally returned a flash to my '86 911.
-Fewer responses received when in my 944.
-Even fewer responses received when in my 987S (e.g. flash almost never returned).
-Owners of newer Porsche's almost never return the flash or wave (whether I am driving a 911, 944 or a 987S).

Whether I'm driving old MGs, Triumphs or Porsches, or new Porsches, I'll still keep flashing...and appreciating the return flash or wave from any Porsche owner, regardless of which model of our favorite marque he/she is driving.

Ray- "You couldn't be more wrong."

That has not been my experience obviously, or i wouldn't have started the thread, and so many p-car owners wouldn't always mention it in the other forums.

"Out of curiosity.....why would you single out Boxster drivers?"

Because if it's any other kind of p-car(emphasis on 'car') i get a wave 9 times out of 10, and usually a honk to boot. LOL, i get honks, thumbs ups, waves, and gawks from a lot of non p-car drivers too.

Because I only wave if you're a smoking HOT lady!

Kidding aside, why do some consider this such a big deal anyway?
Nobody in a Porsche waved at me when I was in my 928.
Nobody in a Porsche waves at me when I'm in my Boxster.
That never ever bothered me.

Hell the only wave I EVER got from anybody was from a girl in the passenger seat of a Mustang (THAT obviously went over very well with her boyfriend/driver)!

You can be sure I waved back!

p.s. Nice shark, btw!

I have to agree totally with this. Nobody waves at me in my '70 911 either. Only once did I get a wave in my '72. Never in my '84. Never in my '88 944 (..or my '88 911 if I recall..). Unless we're on our way to a Pcar event, other Pcar memebers just don't seem to acknowledge each other anymore.

It's because the world is shrinking and there's too much to wave at. People figure "enough already." You'll be greeted with "good morning" by strangers on the street of a small town, but it doesn't happen in a big city. Same sort of thing is happening with the wave.

Interesting theories abound.

Perhaps the wave is a geography thing(though i do live in Philly, one of the bigger NE cities, and well, we philadelphians are not exactly known for our officer-like adherence to proper ettiquite, lol)...or...perhaps there are just 'too many of us' now.

All i know is that the next boxster owner that waves at me will be the first boxster owner that waves at me.

PS: saphriel- Thanx for the compliment bro.
