Default A/C EVAP. REPLACEMENT

ALOHA!!
JUST CURIOUS IF ANYONE HAS REPLACED THEIR A/C EVAPORATOR. WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT THE UNIT ITSELF IS AROUND $1700. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF OTHER SOURCES OR ANY HELPFUL INFO THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

MAHALO,

MIA @ AIR COOLED ENGINES.

Replacing the evaporator is a big job. You're looking at about 8 hours even for a professional tech. The dash has to come out along with some brackets behind the dash. Are you replacing it because its leaking or what? The evaporator shouldnt be that much. I think they are under a grand. Unless you're talking about the whole box and all the motors and such.

If you want to order the part yourself, try Sunset Imports Porsche. They sell Porsche parts for 15% above cost plus shipping. Most dealers sell for 100%+ above cost.

Go here http://www.sunsetporsche.com/porscheatcost.php and e-mail them the part you need. They will get back to you within a day with the price. I've been shocked at how little they sell some genuine Porsche parts for.

I am having it done at the moment to a 2002 S, being in Dubai where the temperatures are around 43C in the day you need a fully functional AC. The AC was just slowly reducing its effectiveness tried all sorts of things replacing the gas etc. in the end got the Porsche garage to have a look. Unfortunately we don't have much options here.

I know it is a big job as look at the renntech has some more information of what is required. The total job is costing around 1800USD for the replacement the evaporator itself is around 600USD.
