1999 2.5 VS. 2000 2.7
Hello! I am in the market for a used boxster and have been thinking about getting either a '99 or 2000 model. I would like to know if there is a big difference between the 2.5 engine from the 2.7. If anyone out there can help, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks!

...well aside from the slipped sleeve problem discussed often on the '99s, the power and revised torque curve on the 2.7 make it the clear winner....2.7s are much better.
That being said my son and neighbor have '99s with no issues..but...

The 2000 and newer also have improved interior materials over the earlier models. If the cost is not a huge difference and is within your budget, go for the 2.7L. If you later decide to to upgrades, a lot of the upgrades (such as muffler) are specific to the 2.7L/3.2L vs. 2.5L.

I have owned both, and I definitely recommend the 2.7L. The improved interior alone is worth the slightly greater cost. I never had any problems with my 1999 2.5, but my 2001 2.7 was an all around better car.

HI! Thanks for the feedback! It really is invaluable advice. I would like to ask about the power though, can you feel a very big difference in power between the two? Thanks in advance!

The power difference is not huge, but if you drive the two cars back to back you will definitely notice the difference. If you buy the 2.5 you will probably later wish you had spent a few more dollars for a 2.7.
