I'm thinking about a Boxster but a deal-breaker would be the lack of a passenger airbag shutoff switch. I did a search but did not find an answer. Does the Boxster line have this feature (for all years, too?)

As they say in Germany "Jain" which is a mixture of JA and NEIN.
There is a special seatbelt receiver which can be installed under the front of the passinger seat.
...and Porsche child seats have a male seatbelt part that fits into the receiver.
Once it is fitted, the whole thing has to be activated by your local Porsche Pusher for an unreasonable fee.
Then when you plug in the child seat the bag is deactivated.

What you need is a good mechanic or friend who knows electrical systems well to install a kill switch. It would be tricky to install without blowing the bag so they would really need to know what they're doing, but it is possible. The dealer won't do it, but you can ask some local Porsche specialists if they can do it before you start looking.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Looks like there is no factory switch in any year Boxster. The link to the airbagonandoff site is much appreciated! Thanks!

You may find helpful information in an earlier post on this board (entitled "Boxster Passenger Airbag", posted on 2/16/05). The dealers can now install a passenger airbag deactivation switch in the 987's, so you may ask your preferred dealer if this dealer-installed option will also work on the 986.
Hope this helps.

Ouch, I fitted the airbag switch this week and got the Porsche center to activate it.
They charged me 74€ plus 17% tax to switch the damn thing on !!!
Less than two minutes work considering they had the computer connected for the service anyway. This is a mega ripoff !!
