You'll turn every head...including the fairer sex. If you're not married, lots of people to offer rides. You'll want to date someone who appreciates a "real" car anyway.

That and 30+ years of new/better technology.

Btw Doug, that's a beauty!!!! Love the color!

CAUTION!!My PO warned me and as you see w/ your 914, once you have a P-car you never want to be without one. Sooooo true!!

Schweet,

I know the Air/Water cooled differences must be immense...the first time I drove the 914 in the summer when I needed to be 'dry' and have my hair still looking nice was the kicker. I was disheveled and soaked in sweat...plus I was half deaf from the stereo and the wind...

It was still a great ride...No...A Fantastic ride...It just lacked 'Creature Features.'

I am probably going to wait until next March-April timeframe...I have some loose ends to tie up. Then it is go time!!! New A-Car while 914 remains the B-Car...

So far, I am hearing that the 2000s and newer will take me all the way!?

I like what I am hearing, so again...Keep 'em coming (I dig the snow pics as well...)

Ranger,

Go for the Boxster! But PLEASE don't ever let go of your classic 914!!!! Whether on the road or track, the 914 is a blast to drive...and when you pass cars (on the track) with more advanced technololgy, you know that it is your driving skill, not the car that is responsible!

Enjoy!

I am a 914 guy, have been for many many years. I've had six's, fours and a V8. I loved them all and still have one of 'em. But this red 2000 S Boxster, sheesh, man..... I can't get enough. It just does everything so well. You're gunna love it!

Don't waste time trying to make it a practical decision, just do it.

Boxsterund914.,..Thanks for the good words...For average Joe's there is no real way to 'justify' the purchase. I am going to wait (at the very least) until the fall....then it is go-time!

The 914 is just so great! It is hard to beleive that a Boxster can be that much better

RangerRhett,
You're right the 914 is amazing! I remember when the 914 came out- I hated them, I thought they looked so stupid. One of my dad's friends had a 914 six that he was proud of, my dad's business partner had a 911S, dad had a hotted-up Alfa and I had a Mini Cooper S. Well, I thought we were cool and he was a geek until we were at an autocross one day and I drove his 914...............time stopped..........it was a revelation! I will always, God willing, own a 914. These things with modern tire technology are outrageous. The one I have now has Brembo big reds front and 944 turbo front brembo's on the rear, a Sheridan body kit, fiberglass front and rear trunk lids, 9x17 front and 10x18 rears, a full cage, 930 turbo 4 speed modified for mid-engine and about 400hp. I want to add another 914, maybe a six conversion that someone has poured major bucks into.

But a Boxster is just SO polished! It does everything so well. I think that Porsche has taken everything they learned over the years and poured it into this car. It doesn't have the biggest motor bragging rights, but it is very quick. It doesn't really have any of the top notches as far as raw statistics go, but wow, every time I drive this thing hard it convinces me that this has to be the absolute best sports car value out there. It is like the 914 in that you can drive it SO deep into turns that your passenger needs to wear a diaper! This is as near a perfect blend of practical car and exotic as I've seen.

Good luck! Let us know when you get one.
