Default 6 speed 'S' tranney in a non 'S' boxster ?

Anyone heard of replacing the 5 speed in a Non-S boxster with the 6 speed from an S ?

My trans is working fine but I was thinking this might be a nice upgrade down the road, giving the car more livable gearing in town. I remember reading somewhere that the S was easier to drive in traffic, or something about less hunting for gears ?

the 6speed is geared for the different torque and power of the 3.2 liter motor.

it would probably be counter productive.

and no, unlike the GT boxes, the gears are not interchangable.

The only way to swap trannys using original parts is by exchanging the rear suspension along with the trans. The axles & CV joints & rear wheel brgs are the problem.
The prices from salvage yards seem to be coming down however. A good, used, lo miles 6 speed was about $3k when I bought one (2) years ago. Now they are avail for +/- $2k.
I still think its a good swap, and I am working on axle combinations to do it at a lower cost. I really want one in my 99 Boxster GT.
