Question Sticking Front hood latch

My 99 Boxster has an issue with the front hood latch. When I pull on the handle inside the car, the hood will not pop open. I have to reach my fingertips into the space between the hood and bumper (thankfully I have slender fingers....) and pull it up. From there I can open it. But lately, when I pull the latch, nothing happens at all and I cannot open the hood unless someone is pulling the latch as I pry up with my finger tips.

So, any suggestions as to how I would adjust the whole set up? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Likely the spring has just worn out, which is why the hood isnt staying up enough to open the hood without prying underneath it.

Is the spring located in the latch mech under the hood, or by the handle inside the car? Is this something you can replace (without replacing the whole latch mech)?
Thanks,

Yeah its located under the capet like stuff in the front trunk. Replacing the whole latch is the only way to get it back to like new. They dont sell things that like individually.

PTEC,

Thanks, it was the spring. I was able to re-seat it, but the carrier has been scored and it will probably slip out again. I will keep fixing (since it does not take long), until I can source a new one. I wonder how much a whole latch mech costs? I figure a small fortune!!
