Question Boxster convertable top replacement guidance

I was just washing my 98 986 and noticed the dreaded pin hole where the rear window folds. The car spent it's first 4 years in Houston and was driven regularly (I assume it was parked in the Texas sun) so I shouldn't be too surprised to finally have a hole/crack. I've had the car for 2 years and this is the first falure I've experienced.

Blah, Blah , Blah, I said all of that to ask for suggestions regarding the sourcing of replacement tops. I see aftermarket tops on eBay with "buy it now" pricing for $350.00 to $450.00. does anyone have any experiance with these suppliers?

I prefer to keep the car OEM original but I also realize Porche parts prices do not always reflect the true value of the part being supplied.

Also has anyone attempted to do the replacement themselves and if so how did it go?

I apprecaite any insight I'm offered.

Thanks!

If it is the plastic that has the hole and the rest of the top is in good condition then you can have a convertible top repair shop sew in a replacement window. A new porsche top is a couple of grand. I have not heard any thing good about aftermarket tops. People have reported that a new window is $300-500.

My '01 S was turned in to a race car last year, looking to sell the convertible top that has been removed. No rips/tears, window in very good condition. Car was rarely parked in the Texas sun (parking garage at work).

Looking to get $400 for it, let me know if you're interested.

My experience with a 98 Boxster is: new plastic window $ 60, labor to install $ 600. New top installed $ 1200.
