Hi Guys,
I just bought a 98 boxster 58K miles. This is my first car in U.S. and I must say its sweet. I have a couple of questions I could use some help with. Firstly, I don't know exactly when was the last oil change done. I have been told that it was done at 53k miles, but I don't have the records to confirm. I called up the dealership ( I am in L.A) and they said that an oil change is done every 7.5 to 10K miles, but they cannot tell by looking at the car when was the last oil change done. My question is that is there a way I can know when was the last oil change done? also when do I get the car serviced? And also do I get the oil changed from dealership only or from Callas rensport, a racing car specialist is Torrance, CA. Any guidance regarding the maintenance of the car will be extremely helpful and appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Aman

unless you can verify the recent maintenance history you should have a full service done ASAP - oil change, lube, check belts, rotate tires, etc. when buying any used Porsche you should always budget $1500-2000 for initial service maintence and also unforseen expenses and repairs in the first year.

Aman - Welcome to Rennlist!
I agree with David; you'll want to get it serviced ASAP. Getting the 60K service done would be the best bet, but I wouldn't recommend doing it at a dealer as you'll usually pay more over what a reputable independent Porsche shop would charge. Being in LA, I'm sure you can find plenty of local shops that do good Boxster work.
The dealer could be useful for giving you info on when the car was last serviced if it was done there. All you'll need is the VIN and possibly proof of ownership for them to look it up in their system.

You can do the 60k service by yourself if your are moderately mechanically inclined. If you want to do it yourself and need guidance ask over on renntech.org or check out the DIY section there.
