First Porsche
Hello,
I am getting ready to buy my first Porsche and have decided the 2000 or 2001 Boxster best fits my budget. I've found a year 2000 being sold by a private party with 27,000 miles in good condition for $23K. I think that's a good price but would appreciate any comments. It doesn't have full leather but does have the sports package and 17" wheels with fairly new tires.
An independent seller of Porsches is telling me I am not going to be happy with the regular car and need to buy the "S" version. I've driven both and can tell the difference but don't know that it's worth the additional $7 to $10K. Has anyone else had this same situation and which model did you finally buy and how did you make your decision.

I picked up a '00 Boxster "S", last week, and we really love the car. I was told by lots of car guys to go ahead and by the "S" over standard car. Glad we did.
Wish you all the best.

I had the same choice and chose the non S, haven't had second thoughts even after 41,000 miles!
The difference in price is not worth it, since for that amount of money I'd be tempted to put it towards a 3.4 upgrade!

Wayne, a very hard decision unless you know what's important to you. If you will kick yourself later for not spending the extra $ on an S, get the S. If it really doesn't matter to you, then you should get the standard Boxster. There are many many people who are very happy with their Boxster and would not upgrade to the S. I've never regretted my choice. These cars are not investments nor are they best in class in terms of value. Buy what make you smile and enjoy it

....had 2 great non-S cars, a 2.5 and 2.7. The only reason I now drive an S (550 SE) is that the dealer wrecked my '02 2.7 during its 30K service.
He offered the 550, at his cost, as an apology...I took it and love the new car....BUT I would still have the '02 2.7 and would still be happy otherwise.

You won't notice the difference in everyday use unless you drive everywhere on the limit.
Mine is a 2000 2,7 and it's fast enough to be fun.
Besides, I don't think you will lose if you decide to trade for a S after a year.

Thanks for all of your replies. I drove both back to back for the first time yesterday and I am still not sure. Monday I will pick up the car I am planning to buy and take it to an independent Porsche mechanic. Will give me another chance to drive it and take a real close look at it.
