Fire extinguisher & mount group buy
After seeing Dan P.'s depressing post (click here) I decided that I will buy an extinguisher ASAP and think that everyone here who doesn't have one should do the same. In fact, a group buy may be in order. I've been working on it with the folks on the 944 & 951 forums and our fearless leader, John D. and here is what I have so far:
I have had contact with OG Racing. They are very well prepared to handle a group buy and the pricing would be as follows:
2.5lb Halon Fire extinguisher (red)-Regular price $150--Rennlist price $125
Brey Krause mount for 911 & 944 non power- Regular price $69.95---Rennlist price-$58.29
Brey Krause mount for 911 & 944 power- Regular price $69.95---Rennlist price-$58.29
Brey Krause mount for 69-73 911- Regular price $69.95---Rennlist price-$58.29
Brey Krause mount for Boxster/996- Regular price- $109.95---Rennlist price-$91.60
Brey Krause mount for Cayenne- Regular price- $144.95---Rennlist price-$115.88
Shipping would be a flat rate to the lower 48 states. The extinguishers cannot be shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, or internationally due to UPS regs.
Suggestions are welcome as this is not set in stone as of yet but it will be starting very soon.

Here's a bit of input on fire ext. After shopping around this summer to mount one as required by DE events, I bought a new 2.5# Halotron for $ 89 at local fire extinguisher service/distributor. This came with the "vehicle mount" (i.e the clamp set-up that you use to then mount it to the specific vehicle bracket.) Of course since it was local, there was no shipping. I found a few similar prices on-line from fire-ext specialists, instead of buying through a racing distributor.
Halotron seems to be replacing Halon (I recall reading that some places are restricting Halon or something..), and seems to be used widely in marine and aviation applications.
Just wanted to plug in two cents here, the $125 did not sound like a good deal especially for group.

some infromation on the difference between Halon and Halotron
Paul,
With my wife in school full time and not working, I can fully appreciate saving money when possible . However, we really need to compare apples to apples when disscussing fire safety systems. A 2.5lb Halotron fire extinguisher has less than half of the fire suppression capacity of a 2.5lb Halon fire extinguisher. A 2.5lb Halon extinguisher has a UL classificaton of 5-B:C, a 2.5lb Halotron extinguisher has a UL classification of 2-B:C. To achieve the 5-B:C classification with a Halotron extinguisher would require a 5lb unit. The 5lb unit offers 3 distinct disadvantages; first, it has a wall hanging bracket, that would require a vehicle mounting bracket to be purchased separatley. Second, due to size, a 5lb bottle would be more difficult to mount in a car than a 2.5lb bottle. Third, a 5lb Halotron bottle would cost more than a 2.5lb halon bottle(more money to do the same work).
To put the UL clasificatons in perspective: a classification of 2-B:C will suppress 2 square feet of fire, a classifiaction of 5-B:C will supress 5 square feet of fire.
Halotron does have a few advantages, pound for pound it costs less than Halon, though it takes twice as much to do the same work. Halotron also environmentally cleaner than Halon. Here is a link to the Halotron website: http://www.halotron-inc.com/prodinfo.htm .
If Rennlist members would prefer Halotron extinguishers to Halon, I would be happy to look into offering Halotron rather than Halon for this group buy, at a price competitive to what you quoted. Also please bear in mind that the price of the Halon extiguishers have gone up 3 times in the past 12 months and will likely go up again after the first of the year.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post,
