Default I Test Drove a Boxster S and a 996 Conv. Yesterday!

I have been planning on purchasing a more modern Porsche for the past several months. I've read every article and I've listened to a lot of advice but the test drive was the key.

I drove the '99 996 first and didn't like it as much as the Boxster because the seat seamed higher and the seat cushion tilted backwards. It was odd for me to hear an engine behind me and it felt like it was way behind me. I enjoyed the ride and the car was plenty fast although I never really ran it to red line. It was a beautiful black on black.

Then I drove the '03 Boxster S. The seat was much more comfortable; less bulky, lower and the seat cushion was flat. I loved hearing the engine right next to my ear. The Boxster felt lighter and the power was very nice. Plus I love the idea of driving a mid engine sports car.

Were there any changes to the Boxster's interior from '00 to '03? I sat in a Boxster about 2 years ago and didn't fit well so I never drove it. The steering wheel was in my lap. The '03 fit just fine (I'm 6'4" tall).

I hope to purchase an S model in the next couple of months. Surprisingly the handling didn't seem much better than that of my 944. It must be my new Yellow Koni's, front springs and rear sway bar. I couldn't ask for better handling than in my 944 anyway.

Thanks,

Mickey

03 Boxster has slightly more HP and a glass rear window instead of plastic in the 00... otherwise seats and interior are the same

..you do realize that the seats have an up/down feature right?

I realize that the seats have an up and down lever on the side. My wife had a BMW with manually adjustable seats of a similar sort. I don't know why any manufacturer would make seats that hinge at the front and raise and lower at the back of the seat. The entire seat (front to back) should adjust upward and downward at the same rate. For tall people the electric seats are best.

Yea, but it is very easy for me to adjust the seats from my wife's 5'5" setting to my 6'1" setting. Very surprising how comfortable those seats can be and less settings then in the Cayenne!
