1999 - put 42,000 miles on 2.5 with LOTS of track time no problems, not even RMS. It even had the original clutch when the engine swap was done. Blew my first (used) 3.4 at Road Atlanta after 3,000 miles. Replaced with factory reman, no issues in 12,000 miles, but I don't track it as much as I used to (that's what the race car is for!).
Under warranty I had a top switch replaced and an airbag light fixed.

I just heard from someone who has a 2000 Boxster S and is on her 3rd clutch in 30,000 miles, seems excessive to me and that there must be something else wrong there that the mechanics aren't catching.

I've had two engines fail. They covered the first but are declining to cover the second. The first motor went approx 80k miles, the second just over 50k. I'm not too eager to spend my own money putting in what may be a faulty engine. Any ideas?

RMS repaired twice, then engine replaced entirely at 18k miles. New cluth at ~20k. New transmission (yes, the whole thing) also around 20k miles... Car was an '01 Boxster S...

I do not believe these cars are nearly as reliable as the old air cooled cars...

Default Boxster vs. 911 Reliability

I agree with the comment about the Boxster vs. 911 from a reliability standpoint.

Both the 82 911SC and the 86 911 Carrera we had were "tanks" compared to the 2000 Boxster S we have now. Our standard Boxster was OK.

We are going to sell the Boxster and I am looking at going back to a 911 or maybe a 964 RS America (if I can find one).

2 engine failures:
First at 19,000 miles
The replaced engine failed after 40 miles
Third engine still running after 5,000 miles......

Trivial failure judging from what is posted -- cover on the vanity mirror on the passenger side rear view mirror failed and replaced less then 15K miles -- Now at 47K miles and have replaced the tires and all the other service items. Something was wrong with the radio shortly after delivery, but it was replaced right away and I cannot remember what it was/
