Default Wheel Spacers

I've read through a bunch of threads on this forum regarding spacers. I'm considering adding 15mm all around on my 2000. However, I'm concerned about increased wear on the bearings and overall negative impact. What is the general consensus? Will 15mm make a big impact on wear?

If your bearings are on the way out the spacers CAN accelerate the fail
but I haven’t seen too many fail

I have a 2000 Base

Here are my notes:

Tires on car when I got it

Front 205/50-17 7x17 ET55

Rear 255/40-17 8.5x17 ET50

5 x 130

Center bore 71.6

Upsize would best be

7.5 x 18 ET50 48 – 52 225/40-18

9 x 18 ET52 50 – 54 265/35-18

Hub-centric wheel spacers – 5mm in front, 15mm in rear

Porsche made a five spoke wheel they called Carerra II for the Boxster special edition and some S models that is exactly the size above and a perfect fit for 18” wheels. I found a used set on ebay that had just been freshly powder-coat painted and bought them for $1,400. I purchased Kuhmo PS31 tires in the sizes above. This is at 55K miles

I've had them on for 3000 miles with no problems.

Greg

those are the wheels I wish I had. They're my favorite style. Thanks for the info.

I agree those look nice!

BobbyD25 what 17s do you have? I have the stock 2001 17" Boxster S wheels. I really like them, just wish they filled out the arches a little more. I can't seem to find a consensus on spacers for them.

I have the stock 17" wheels. I believe they're called turbo twists? I like the style, I would prefer 18s tho

That depends on your focus. I hate the ride of my 997 with 19s, but love the 17s on the Boxster. Still great handling but a far better ride.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've been running 7 mm front / 5 mm rear spacers, but I'm also running 9" front / 10" rear wheels, which are the most wheel that I can fit under the fenders, so that's probably a little more overall offset than you may be doing with stock wheel widths.

I had to change wheel bearings quite a few years ago before I went to this extreme set-up, but no issues since.

I ordered 15mm rennline spacers and extended bolts from ECS tuning…had the best price I could find. Plus $25 off for sign up.

We’ll see how it goes!

We run spacers in racing all the time w/ sticky tires and do not have issues with wheel bearings failing any more frequently.

Have any pics from behind/front slightly to the side of the car? Curious if there's any poke, from the measurements you listed they sound like they should be basically flush

I saw some listings on ebay for spacers & lug bolts. They look pretty high quality for a very low price!

I'd be wary of some of the eBay products - i've purchased lugnuts from eBay before as a temporary solution and i'm glad they were only temporary, the metal was super soft and deformed after running them for only 5000 miles!
