Default No hot air from the heater

2000 Boxster 2.7 l

A/C works fine but the heater air will not get hot. The air gets warmer but not hot. There is hot water getting to and from the heater core. I've verified that all of the flaps are moving except the flesh air/recirculated air flap. Durametric says it's moving but I couldn't verify it visually. Per Durametric, all of the temperature sensors are reading proper temps except the “system outside temperature”. There is no signal for this parameter. I don't know what or where the “system outside temperature” sensor is. In my shop manual I find the "outside temperature sensor", an "interior temperature sensor" and a "footwell blower outlet temperature sensor". I've replaced the interior temperature sensor. Any ideas?

Default Heat, no heat

Hi. You'll find the external temperature sensor is mounted in one of the air intake grilles. It is a round the size of a standard cigarette in overall length. On UK cars it is on the right side grill & is a simple push fit into a moulded 'hoop'.

Noticed any black foam blowing out of the air vents? No "hot" heat is the classic symptom of deteriorating foam on the heater box blend door. The foam covers large holes in the door. When it's gone, heated air and cold fresh air mix. Google "Porsche 986 blowing foam." There are two commonly used approaches to access the door - through the heater core or through the enter vents.

Default That's the problem.

I saw the blend doors with holes in them. I didn't understand it. And now to figure out how to get to them. Thanks for the information.

This thread, even though it is from the 987 forum will lead you to some good information. I just repaired my blend door/flaps. The hardest part was squeezing my arm and hands into the heater box and accessing the inside flap. If I had smaller hands it would have been much easier.
