Best Exhaust upgrade for 986?
I am considering replacing the stock Porsche PSE exhaust muffler with the Borla SS Catback Exhaust.
I can’t find anything on the web about how it actually sounds … would like to find a clip to hear it.
Does anyone have one installed on their Boxster S that wouldn’t mind posting?
Are there any other options out there other than the full on setups that Fabspeed sells?
Anyone done just a cat delete? I’m told that doesn’t throw CELs.
I don’t want to drop 6k on a full system (headers on back) … although I’d consider a used setup.
Thanks
Ed

of course, the entire billion dollar aftermarket exhaust business is a scam. Christ, this is an enthusiast forum after all, isn’t it?
OP…what are you after?
Wind noise will always be king in a convertible. I did simple, and cheap secondary cat bypass pipes on my 03 S. The O2 sensors are both upstream of that pipe, so no CEL’s, etc from that change.
I also removed the intake “trumpet”, that significantly increased the intake noise…and that bypass pipe now slightly mirrors that. The exhaust was always absent from the driving experience when stock, now that lovely flat 6 is more present in the driving experience.
That beings said, there are quite a few options out there…aftermarket $$, and shade tree. FD Motorsport is a Rennlist sponsor, and they do a lovely stock muffler mod. If your on the left coast, you can consider them also.

FD usually gets nice reviews - although I am not sure if they usually modify PSE; usually just the stock/base unit. FabSpeed also seems to be mentioned frequently as well as a higher end option.
