Boxster Luggage Rack
Anyone have any experience with detachable luggage racks?
I know of a few companies distributing these but i want to see if anyone has had good or bad experiences before I buy. I am most concerned with damaging the trunk lid or scratching the paint.
Some distributor names I have found:
surco
duetto
allroadster
autoatlanta

I have the Surco rack (believe it is the same one in links 1,3 and 4). I do like the option of having it, but the term 'removable' really means: when you're at home in the garage ---it will not fit inside either trunk when removed. It's a 10 minute or so effort to install , and I'm not enamored with the attachment method --in fact if you snug down the attachment armsto far, you(the 'feet' that rest on the top of the trunl lid) can put dents in the trunk lid.
The surco version is top caliber construction and finish (high polished chrome).
I've actually cut mine in half and fabricated some spliing sleeves sl that I can break it down and store it in the trunk. I've also been working on a better menas to distribute the load of the 'feet' so as to eliminate the possib of dimpling the trunk lid.
On reflection, there were probably only 2 or 3 instances where I really needed it--the car excellent storage capabilites to begin with.
