Default PCCM+ Install on 2001 Boxster with DSP

Hello,

I have a 2001 Boxster that I just installed PCCM+ in. The car came with the CR-220 radio, Hi-Fi sound system (490), Digital Sound (680) and the remote CD changer factory options. The PCCM+ head unit powers up fine but I don't get any sound from the speakers. The installation instructions are horrible and I had to redo the connections a couple of times. Here's a list of the things I determined while doing the install:

1) The alarm connection to the radio frame only needs to be removed and taped in cars that have PCM1, my car doesn't have it so I left it connected.
2) The ground line they instruct you to add to the amp connector is only needed on cars with PCM1, my car doesn't have it so I left that connection alone.
3) The Sirius/XM tuner connector replaces the blue antenna connector in the stock 3 connector block. I removed the stock blue connector and replaced it with the Sirius/XM tuner connector and the connected Sirius/XM tuner I bought from Amazon.
4) I installed the MOST box on the frame and connected it to the PCCM+ head unit, my car does not have MOST but this shouldn't hurt anything having it connected.

Anyone here install PCCM+ in a similar car and come to different conclusions, have issues getting sound or have any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Default Add on question-

Regarding #2) The ground line they instruct you to add to the amp connector is only needed on cars with PCM1, my car doesn't have it so I left that connection alone.Where does it say to place the ground? I added Bluetooth to my Boxster and I’m getting a whine that I suspect is a grounding issue.

sorry I’m not any help on your original question

The ground is specific to the factory amplifier, I don't think it would help your issue. I would recommend taking it to a car audio specialist and having them look at it, probably a simple fix.

You have the digital sound package "608" which means you should have the M680 DSP amplifier if your car is still all factory. Therefore, you need to follow the instructions and ground the 18 pin connector. This should give you sound.

I wouldn't worry about installing anything associated with MOST, since that technology wasn't implemented until MY2003.

Thank you, the instructions say the ground line is only needed with M662 (PCM1) and M680 and since I only have M680 I assumed this was not needed but was my next attempt at a fix. Thank you, I will try that today and report back on the results.

Yea, it's a little hard to follow their instructions at times, but what they're saying is... Mk1 986 or 996 cars (1997-01) that have either the M662 or M680 amplifiers, will need to have 18-pin connector grounded for the new PCCM+ to work with those amps.

Thank you so much @ZuffenZeus, that fixed it. Replaced the wire at pin 17 with the ground line, changed from CAN to AMP and did a Factory Reset. Paired my iPhone and now everything works perfectly.

You're welcome! Glad that was the fix. And, I totally agree Porsche could have done better with their instructions. Hope you enjoy that radio.
