Default Dead Battery?

I know this is a really simple question.. but perhaps there is a special catch on these cars.

2000 Boxster, 19K miles.

After sitting for a few days it won't start. The starter solenoid just clicks. I jumped, started. Drove around keeping the revs high for about 15 mins. Came back. Shut it off.... Car barely cranks.

The power windows are acting a bit funny, the dash time is off.

Here are my three likely suspects:

Battery - 4 years old? Changing it today.
Voltage regulator - how does the charging system work?
Alternator - ?

Thanks

If you have a voltmeter, battery voltage should be about 12.5 v with the car off and 14 v with the car running.

Easiest is to take it to Sears or AutoZone and let them check it with the device they have that puts a load on the battery. They'll install the battery for a few bucks or free.

Started right up...

After a long drive it was hard to crank.

Any ideas?

Having similar problems with my 98 Boxster, 52,000 miles. I have a new battery (6 months) and recently brought the car in to Porsche for service. I paid a few hundred dollars to have the car "fixed" but the issue remains...

Was told by porsche that the leads to the battery had corroded and were replaced, which explained it's tendency to start sometimes while at others not even turn slightly. Dashboard clock, predictably. has been all over the place. Although I have new leads, I still have an erratic car, and Porsche will soon be hearing from me. I must mention though that I have never had a car that drives like this one, and will bear whatever difficulty necessary to keep driving it.
