What about a used 996 engine instead? Might make the cost of replacement easier to swallow if you get an upgrade out of the deal. Following along to see how it goes.

If I’m not mistaken a 2003 S motor uses the same DME as the 2.7L motor, so this would significantly make the swap easier. Whenever i have had a loss I always look for a way to improve my situation. This makes me feel better about a bad situation. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
