Hi again friends. My car is one of those early 986 Made in Germany that came with no external air temperature sensor but AC. From what I have read here, someone mentioned a retrofit is possible.

What I know so far: Get the cable and the air temp (Around $100 or more), and then run the wiring to the gauge blue connector (Not the white one), 16 and 17 pins, and have the computer option activated (Done!), then you will see the temp displayed in the gauges.

Ok well, considering this is not life changing, I want to try to use a cheap sensor, and ordered one from Aliexpress... I know I know... but to be honest, what can be so different from a $45 Porsche part and a 2022 air temperature sensor from China? So... anyone did this retrofit? Cable routing I should be aware of? Will it work? So many questions, such an exciting experiment.

 

if you pull the carpet back on your front tub there should be a hole in it with a plug for where the factory harness goes through to connect to the missing sensor. I'd trace back to see if you have the harness there at least.

Thanks, got the part. Now all I have (Based off the wiring diagrams I have) is that in the gauge cluster blue connector slot 17 is for the ext temp aka o2 sensor (1 cable), the second cable.... im guessing is ground. Can anyone confirm? So I would just run the wiring from the temp sensor all the way to the instrument cluster, or as I read somewhere, needs to go all the way to the back of the car where the master cylinder is? Thanks... just trying to solve THE EXT TEMP SENSOR PUZZLE :-)
