Hi all, newbie here and first post. Looking at buying my first Porsche and financially have settled on a Boxster. I have looked at a few and am going to see one this week, 2004 with 88k miles. I see on the carfax “engine replaced” in 2008 with 26,000 miles by the 2nd owner. My question is, if the engine was replaced would it have been the same engine type with the same original imsb style? How can I see if the engine is the same as what it was built with? Looks like it may be a Spyder SE but need to visually confirm.
concerns are, was the ims addressed when the engine was replaced?
was the same tuned engine installed when it was replaced? Does not appear to be a Porsche dealer that had the engine replaced
thanks all! Will be getting a 986 regardless and looking forward to contributing

Policy was replace with latest design. But what is actually in there? Dealer could have had one on the shelf, used one from a wreck, etc. Anything is possible. Only know when you do a clutch and get a chance to look.

Saw that you are looking for a 986S and I have a 2000 S with 25,400 miles (approx) I am getting ready to sell. IMS, Clutch, Flywheel, RMS all addressed. It's in very good shape, second owner. I'm in Philly. Shoot me a DM. Only change from stock are Bilstein shocks and H&R Sport springs. Fresh tires, service, inspection, oil change, etc. Has some very minor cosmetic stuff as you would expect for any 22 year old car. Mechanically perfect. Never tracked or auto-x. 6-speed.
